Transportation and Logistics

In 2019, the Town of Port McNeill invested in expanding its community harbour, increasing moorage capacity by 70% and strengthening its role as a hub for commercial, industrial, and tourism activity.

Transportation and Logistics

On a coast of islands and inlets, transportation is what connects communities to markets, services, and one another. We focus our investments on long-term, sustainable transportation and logistics infrastructure that increases economic activity across the commercial, industrial, small business, and tourism sectors.

We encourage proposals to expand and improve the harbours, marinas, wharves, and airports that coastal communities depend on, strengthening their capacity, efficiency, and resilience. We also welcome proposals that improve logistics and warehousing, so local businesses can move goods reliably and reach their markets.

Through investments in the public transportation and logistics infrastructure that coastal communities rely on, we help build an economy that can grow and withstand disruption over the long term: one that opens access to local and distant markets, reduces supply chain vulnerabilities, supports tourism, industry, and small business alike, and keeps remote, island, and inlet communities connected to the opportunities they need to thrive.

What Projects Do We Fund?

Projects We Fund

  • Harbours, marinas, and ports that enable commercial and/or industrial business expansion or increased tourism business activity
  • Wharves and marine-access infrastructure in rural islands, inlets, and remotely located communities to accommodate increased cargo, passenger flows, or economic activity
  • Airports, heliports, seaplane terminals and related infrastructure to improve regional connectivity and support economic growth
  • Logistics and warehousing infrastructure that supports locally owned businesses

Projects We Do Not Fund

  • Amenities focused on use by residents such as local moorage or recreational boat launches
  • Sidewalks, bike lanes, urban/suburban walking, or multi-use trails within communities
  • Public transit services and transit vehicles

Start the Conversation

However far along you are – an early idea, a plan taking shape, or a proposal nearly ready – the best next step is a conversation. That is where we like to start, and where the best projects usually begin.

We welcome every chance to work alongside you as your project takes shape. Reach out before you start a funding application, while the plan is still forming. When you share where you’re headed, we can help shape it with you and build a strong application together.

We’re available by phone or online, and we’re glad to meet in person, welcoming the opportunity to meet in your community.
