Our Impact

Economic Prosperity

A resilient coastal economy is one that does not depend on a single industry or a single source of investment. It is built through diverse partnerships, draws in new capital from near and far, and keeps wealth and opportunity circulating close to home — creating a broad economic base for everyone who lives and works along this coast.

The Trust is committed to the future of this coast’s economy. Through our project investments, we partner with local organizations, businesses, and funders to grow new sectors and opportunities alongside the industries already established here. That means attracting new capital to the coast, investing in the start-up and growth of enterprises, forging partnerships that would not otherwise exist, and opening doors to joint ventures that multiply the impact of every dollar invested.

Using our Wellbeing Impact Framework, we track and publicly report on eight Economic Prosperity Outcomes across four key indicators, giving our communities a clear picture of how investment is building a stronger, more diversified regional economy over time.

Attracting New Investment

Attracting new investment

One of the most direct ways the Trust strengthens the coastal economy is by making investment possible in places and projects that might otherwise be overlooked. By stepping in as a first investor, the Trust de-risks opportunities and signals to other investors, funders, and government partners that a project is credible and worth pursuing. That early commitment is what unlocks the larger investments that follow.

Since launching the Wellbeing Impact Framework in 2024, the Trust has partnered with local organizations, diverse investors, and funders to attract over $70 million in new investment into Vancouver Island and the surrounding coast, multiplying the impact of community-led projects and stimulating long-term economic growth throughout the region, since 2024.

Based on completed and ongoing projects since April 1, 2024, the launch of the Wellbeing Impact Framework, as of March 31, 2026. Funded organizations work closely with Island Coastal Economic Trust to provide this information through our project application and reporting process.
